The documentary film “Practices for a Revolution” (Tamrin-haee Baraye Yek Enghelab), directed by Pegah Ahangarani, has won the “L’Œil d’or” (Golden Eye) award at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. This accolade is the most prestigious award in the documentary category at the Cannes Film Festival.
Pegah Ahangarani, who began her career as a cinema actress, has shifted her focus to documentary filmmaking over the past few years. Upon receiving the award, she stated that she dedicates it to the people of Iran, who, despite all the crackdowns they have endured over the years, have never given up striving for their rights, freedom, and dreams.
Pegah Ahangarani expressed her absolute certainty that they “will never surrender.” In a portion of her speech, she remarked: “I have a wish that I want to share here: that one day in the near future, my little daughter Lily and all the children of Iran can live in a free and democratic Iran.”
“Practices for a Revolution” is a documentary that uses personal archives, home videos, footage of street protests, newspapers, and recorded audio to narrate nearly five decades of Iran’s contemporary history.
