Hours before tip off at the EuroLeague Final Four in Athens on Friday, visiting fans from Fenerbahce, Real Madrid and Valencia were soaking up the atmosphere across the capital as anticipation built for European basketball’s showcase weekend.
The tournament opens with home side Olympiakos – appearing in its fifth consecutive Final Four – facing defending champion Fenerbahce. Later Friday, surprise package Valencia takes on Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid in an all-Spanish semifinal.
Despite forecasts of unsettled weather, supporters from Turkey and Spain traveled to Athens in large numbers for the event, which takes place at the Telekom Center in Maroussi.
At the fan zone outside the Zappeion Mansion, fans tested their shooting skills at basketball hoops, took part in quizzes and games, browsed team merchandise and gathered around DJ sets ahead of the evening’s action.
