Athens is hosting the Euroleague basketball final four this weekend at the Telekom Center in Maroussi, with competition running from Friday through Sunday.
The tournament opens Friday with a semifinal matchup between Greek club Olympiakos, which is playing in the final four for the fourth consecutive season, and Turkish defending champion Fenerbahce.
The second semifinal later in the evening is an all-Spanish affair between this year’s surprise Valencia and traditional powerhouse Real Madrid.
Greek police have banned large outdoor gatherings and motorized marches in central Athens for the duration of the event, reflecting the security demands of one of European basketball’s premier competitions.
