Police teams in the central zone conducted “Operation Prevail” on May 20 and 21 with the aim of curbing the activities of anti-social elements and initiating action against offenders with a history sheet.The operation was carried out in the nine districts falling under the zone during which 150 known delinquents were brought for inquiry to the police stations in the nine districts. A total of 67 offenders were arrested and lodged in prisons.A police press release on Friday said the Inspector-General of Police (Central Zone) has advised the nine Superintendent of Police to monitor the activities of the known offenders and take action against them as per the law. An awareness campaign christened “SOS - Policing - Sense of Safety” has been started in the nine districts falling under the zone with the objective of ensuring women safety. Meetings were organised in 1,147 villages in the central zone by the police during which they drove home the objective of the initiative. General public who participated in the meetings assured the police of their cooperation.As part of the campaign, the police stressed on the importance of installing surveillance cameras in front of houses and commercial establishments with public participation to ensure safety of women, another release said.
