Businessman Sipho Pityana has lost his attempt to overturn the Gauteng High Court, Pretoria rejecting his bid to return to the Absa board and be compensated.
Top businessman Sipho Pityana has suffered yet another setback in his long-running legal battle against banking giant Absa.
This follows the dismissal with costs of his challenge of the Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, judgment handed down on March 11 and revised two weeks later, rejecting his bid to return to the bank’s board.
In March, Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, Judge Petrus van Niekerk stated that the decision to remove Pityana as a director of Absa was not reviewable on the grounds he advanced, and therefore, the application stood to be dismissed.
Pityana, who was an Absa board member from May 2019 until his removal in November 2021, also wanted just and equitable compensation as an alternative, then launched an application for leave to appeal Judge Van Niekerk’s March ruling.
