MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered an investigation into allegations of unauthorized meetings between complainants and police officers who are respondents in the case of the missing cockfighting aficionados (sabungeros).

“What P/Gen. Nartatez wants to find out is if there are other police officers involved in facilitating the meeting[s],” the top cop’s office said in a statement on Friday.

The order came a day after the PNP relieved two police officers from their posts for allegedly allowing some complainants to meet with the respondents detained at the custodial center in Camp Crame, Quezon City, without authorization.
