PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR, Philippines — Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso has banned the entry of poultry and livestock products from several towns of Zamboanga Sibugay province due to the threat of bird flu.

Olaso convened an emergency meeting with city departments, police, and military units on Tuesday to lay out measures on how to enforce the ban on the entry of poultry and livestock products from the towns of Diplahan, Buug, and Imelda of Zamboanga Sibugay following confirmed cases of avian influenza.

The Bureau of Animal Industry earlier reported that three farms in Diplahan tested positive for the highly contagious viral disease, prompting immediate action from the city government.
