MANILA, Philippines — China’s temporary import ban on pigs, wild boar, and related swine products from the Philippines won’t have an immediate impact on the latter’s trade performance, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“While the Philippines does not currently export live pigs, wild boar, or related swine products [to] that market — meaning there is no immediate impact on our current trade performance — we view this development through a lens of mutual understanding,” the BAI said.

Reuters reported that China’s General Administration of Customs had imposed the import restriction due to swine fever.
