MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) has urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) to oppose further tariff reductions on pork and poultry imports, warning that lower import duties could undermine the growth of the livestock and poultry industries.

The National Sectoral Committee on Poultry and Livestock under PCAF expressed its concern over plans to lower tariffs on pork and chicken imports under the free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations between the Philippines and the European Union.

“In response, it adopted a resolution urging the Department of Agriculture (DA) to oppose any further tariff reduction proposals,” PCAF said in a statement.
