Music star Abomé Léléfant has died at the age of 33 from a heart attack, with those close to him announcing their 'shock' concerning his sudden death.17:10, 21 May 2026Tributes are being paid tonight to a much-loved music star. Abomé Léléfant - whose real name Anassin Boris Médard - died this Monday, May 18, at the Treichville University Hospital in Abidjan.Léléfant was just 33 at the time of his death and according to sources close to his family he died from a heart attack as a result of a heart condition. The same sources revealed their complete shock at the news."We knew he had eye problems. We are shocked by his death, especially the heart attack ," one of his collaborators told the website Linfodrome. Léléfant had suffered from an eye condition, endemic tropical limboconjunctivitis (ECLT), since childhood. The condition became more apparent during his last public appearances.The rapper himself explained that he underwent regular treatment "to limit the damage" without the disease apparently affecting his artistic activity.He previously said: "My state of health. I suffer from vision problems that I've had since I was little. A disease called Endemic Tropical Limbo-Conjunctivitis. Hence the redness of my eyes. The tearing, and hyperpigmentation of the bulbar conjunctiva (catarrh). I am being monitored as closely as possible to limit the damage."The rapper first came to fame in 2010 as the lead singer of the group Fiesta Parade which he was involved with until 2017. He then joined producer DJ Arafat, but left in 2020 to pursue a solo career. His hit singles include Numéro 10 and Solo. The artist released a new track titled Médicament in May 2026, which was his last record.The First Lady of Ivory Coast, Dominique Ouattara, paid tribute to the star following the news of his death: "It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of the musician Abomé Léléfant."A powerful voice and a generous soul, Abomé Léléfant had found his place at the heart of the Foundation's major celebrations, bringing his good humour, talent, and infectious energy to every occasion, serving children and the causes dear to us," the First Lady stated. "His departure leaves a huge void in the Ivorian music scene and in our hearts," she added. "I extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to his family, loved ones, and the entire artistic community. May his soul rest in peace."Ivorian Minister of Culture and Francophonie, Françoise Remarck, also paid tribute: "My first feelings are those of compassion and sorrow ," she wrote, praising "his unwavering availability, especially to children," and his commitment to promoting Ivorian culture.
