The creative minds behind the beloved social media account Americana at Brand Memes are moving on up from Glendale to Hollywood.
The @americanaatbrandmemes page has become a favorite of Angelenos, with frequently viral local jokes and memes about the Rick Caruso-owned outdoor shopping mall. The account has over 100,000 followers on Instagram and over 80,000 on X, and the creators behind it have maintained their anonymity throughout.
Now the account’s writers are taking their talents to the big screen, writing a heist comedy feature called Jay Pegs Auto Mart. The film is based on true events and follows the story of NGMI.Global, a collective of crypto developers and performers who in 2021 launched Jay Pegs Auto Mart, a site selling NFTs of 2007 Kia Sedona minivans. The team sold $3 million in NFTs in record time, only to have the funds stolen almost immediately — leading them to launch a D.I.Y. investigation to recover their fortune before their minivan-fueled empire goes up in smoke.
“We are so excited to be a part of this hilarious project. This is a story about the NGMI.Global team taking a meme too far, and that’s a story we know all too well,” the Americana at Brand Memes team said in a statement. “We can’t wait to officially join the small group of people in L.A. who call themselves screenwriters!”
