The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday disposed of a petition that sought a direction to the authorities to secure, safeguard and ensure proper administration of the properties of the Kalahastheeswarar temple in Dindigul town.A Division Bench of Justices D. Bharatha Chakravarthy and R. Poornima disposed of the petition filed by A. Radhakrishnan of Salem district after the State submitted that a committee had been formed to inspect the temple properties and safeguard them.The petitioner said the temple situated in Dindigul town is an ancient temple administered under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. The temple owns valuable immovable properties including inam lands, temple lands, leased properties, buildings, shops and other endowment properties dedicated for religious and charitable purposes.The temple is visited by a large number of devotees and the proper maintenance and the protection of the temple properties are matters of substantial public importance, he said.
