It's easy for Israel's democratic and liberal camp to oppose Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi's broadcast media bill. This motley crew of a governing coalition offers its critics easy targets. After all, this bill was drawn up after years of incitement against the media and journalists and of a consistent effort to depict the media as a political enemy and to control it. Now, too, the true goal – hidden behind terms such as "opening up the market" and "increasing competition" – is to weaken centers of criticism.
