Justice Minister Nikolay Naydenov announced that he has proposed the dismissal of Daniela Miteva as head of Bulgaria’s Registry Agency following what he described as years of “shocking and unacceptable practices” inside one of the country’s most sensitive administrative institutions.
Speaking after a government meeting at the Council of Ministers, Naydenov said an internal review uncovered serious irregularities that, despite repeated warning signals over the years, had allegedly been ignored or tolerated. He said the agency’s importance made the findings particularly alarming, as the institution oversees company registrations, NGOs, property records, state institutions, and special pledges while handling vast amounts of personal data connected to citizens and businesses across Bulgaria.
“I came across shocking and unacceptable practices that have continued for years,” Naydenov said, adding that he had already submitted a detailed report to Prime Minister Rumen Radev and would refer the findings to the competent authorities, including the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the minister, more than 60 percent of positions in the agency’s general administration remain vacant. He said there is currently no chief secretary, no deputy directors, no head of the financial department, and no information security officer. Naydenov also cited financial irregularities, problems in accounting for assets, and concerns surrounding public procurement procedures.
