Kremlin must not benefit from Iran energy shock, European Commission says

The European Commission said it had no plans to ease sanctions on Russian energy even as key G7 allies budge, although a planned total ban on crude oil imports has yet to materialise.

“We will not comment on what other countries are doing on sanctions regarding Russia,” chief spokesperson Paula Pinho said on Wednesday. “We remain committed to our sanctions on imports of Russian oil and gas.”

On Monday, the US renewed a waiver on Russian crude oil sanctions, and the UK followed suit on Tuesday, allowing the import of jet fuel and diesel with Russian crude oil origins.
