The Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) has urged the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to resolve the power-related issues affecting their units.Highlighting the steep increase in power cost and certain adverse decisions relating to non-conventional energy, the delegation appealed to the Chief Minister to address the following issues immediately.The association urged Vijay to withdraw the collection of network charges for rooftop solar power generation (as per the High Court Order). It also urged the Chief Minister to keep in abeyance the collection of arrears of deemed demand charges until a final order is issued by the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity.The association wants the government to freeze demand charges at the existing rate of ₹608 per kVA per month for a period of three years.The delegation also appealed for allocation of adequate funds and speedy implementation of the PM Mitra Park Scheme and the Tamil Nadu Integrated Textile Policy, among other schemes.The SIMA delegation consisted of T Rajkumar, Former Chairman, SIMA; Ravi Sam, Vice-Chairman, The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, and Former Chairman, SIMA; Ashwin Chandran, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry and Former Chairman, and others.Published on May 20, 2026
