Two people have been arrested in northern Greece following an investigation into the suspected illegal employment of under-age migrants from a local reception center for unaccompanied minors, authorities said Wednesday.
A police statement said Tuesday night’s arrests near the town of Ioannina followed complaints that minors were sneaking out of from the center without permission in the night and returning the next morning.
A surveillance operation found that a bus picked up an unaccompanied minor who had just exited the facility and drove him with other workers to a local business to work on the night shift. Police did not specify what the business was.
The statement said officers arrested the night shift manager and the bus driver, and were seeking the contractor who provided staff for the enterprise where the youth was allegedly working.
