Russian President Vladimir Putin claims his country has successfully test-launched “the most powerful missile in the world”, which he said will enter Russian military service by the end of the year.
The Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) – nicknamed Satan II – was built to replace the aging Soviet-era Voyevoda missile and can be armed with nuclear warheads.
However, some have questioned its probable power along with the timing of Putin’s announcement.
What are the capabilities of the Sarmat missile?
The Russian leader claimed that the combined power of the Sarmat’s individually targeted warheads could be more than four times greater than any of its current Western counterparts.
