Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev has said it is “logical” for Eurovision to be hosted in the city, given that this year’s winner DARA comes from Varna, as local authorities move to position the city as a leading candidate for the 2027 contest.
The municipal council is expected to vote on a proposal on May 28 to grant DARA honorary citizenship of Varna. According to Kotsev, a formal public celebration is also being planned for August 15, coinciding with Varna Day, where the singer is expected to be officially welcomed in her hometown.
Kotsev confirmed that DARA has already indicated she will accept the honorary distinction. The mayor linked the artist’s international success with a broader opportunity for the city to raise its profile on the European stage.
He said Varna should be seriously considered as a potential host city for Eurovision, noting that preparations are still in an early phase and that all requirements and technical standards must first be reviewed. “Varna is willing to host as Dara’s hometown and we will do everything possible to draw attention to Varna as one of the main contenders for the next Eurovision,” Kotsev said, while stressing that it is still too early to make a final decision.
