Artificial Intelligence (AI) has already entered the Arab classroom without even planning for it. Students hand in essays cleaned up by ChatGPT. Administrators use the AI detectors to detect AI content. Researchers execute experiments on cloud platforms. The cloud platform may sit outside their own country’s borders. I work in industry. I see what happens to these graduates after they leave campus. Many move into jobs where they have to protect sensitive systems.
So the real question is no longer whether AI will change higher education here. It is whether security and ethics will be built in before something goes wrong.
