The organization Hostage Aid Worldwide announced that Shahab Dalili, a U.S. permanent resident, has been released after more than 10 years of “unjust detention” in Iran and has returned to the United States.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the organization wrote that following “a long journey from Evin to Yerevan and then to Washington,” Dalili has finally returned home and reunited with his family in America. The statement also called on supporters to assist him in “transitioning back to normal life.”

According to published information, Shahab Dalili was arrested in 2016 while traveling to Iran to attend his father’s funeral. His family stated that following his initial arrest, he was held in a state of legal limbo for nearly two years before being sentenced to 10 years in prison by a court on charges of “cooperation with a hostile government.”

Dalili, a former captain for the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, held U.S. permanent residency before his detention.

Hostage Aid Worldwide, the organization that broke the news of his release, was founded by former hostages and detainees and works to advocate for prisoners and wrongfully detained individuals across various countries.
