Greece can see a rebound in tourist arrivals if the situation in the Middle East is resolved soon, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Monday, but warned industry officials that they can't constantly hope for new record numbers of visitors.
Speaking at an event organized by the Greek Tourism Confederation, which uses the Greek acronym SETE, Mitsotakis also rejected growing unease about the effect of tourism on Greek society saying the country "loves the sector" and depends on it.
"I believe that if the good scenario [on the Middle East] pans out ... we will see a surge in the willingness of our traditional visitors to travel to Greece, although I can't make any specific estimate," he said.
"The first two months [of 2026] were exceptional" for tourism, he added.
"Clearly right now there is a slight halt.
