Under the new law passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly, all burial and funeral ceremonies are now restricted to Saturdays, while midweek burials have been outlawed entirely.

The Anambra State government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo has introduced sweeping regulations aimed at ending lavish burial ceremonies and reducing the financial pressure placed on grieving families across the state.

Under the new law passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly, all burial and funeral ceremonies are now restricted to Saturdays, while midweek burials have been outlawed entirely.

The legislation, obtained on Monday, is designed to regulate burial activities, boost economic productivity and discourage extravagant spending associated with funerals in the state.

The law stated, “No person shall give to the deceased person’s family, as a condolence gift, any item exceeding money, one jar of palm wine, one carton of beer and one crate of soft drinks.
