The HSF wants EFF leader, Julius Malema, removed from participating in the Judicial Service Commission.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has condemned the legal action by the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) as “institutional overreach” as they seek to have the party’s leader, Julius Malema, removed from participating in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The foundation lodged its application in the Western Cape High Court last week, in which they want the court to set aside Speaker Thoko Didiza’s decision not to consider Malema’s suitability for the JSC, the body responsible for interviewing and recommending judges for appointment.
The HSF argues that the National Assembly has a constitutional obligation to assess whether the EFF leader remains suitable to continue serving as one of Parliament’s appointed representatives on the JSC.
