Agbekoya and other self-determination groups have continued to engage in security efforts despite operating without official support.

The President of the Agbekoya Reformed Society in Ogun State, Kunle Oshodi, has renewed calls for stronger government backing for self-determination groups, insisting that regional governance remains the most viable long-term solution to rising kidnappings and terrorist attacks in the South-West.

Oshodi made the call while speaking on the worsening security situation in Yorubaland, alleging that criminal activities in the region are becoming increasingly organised and driven by influential sponsors with access to resources and long-standing networks.

Speaking in an interview with The Punch Newspaper, he said Agbekoya and other self-determination groups have continued to engage in security efforts despite operating without official support.

“The issue of terrorism has been with us for quite some time. Agbekoya is doing its best voluntarily, despite receiving no support from anywhere or anyone. I am also certain that other self-determination groups we work with are doing their best as well.
