Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in a speech on Sunday closing the three-day New Democracy party congress, said Greece is strongest when the party is united, reiterating the government’s goal of securing a third consecutive term.
“We are more united than ever. When New Democracy is united, Greece is united as well; when New Democracy wins, the homeland also wins,” Mitsotakis said, framing an electoral victory as a national necessity rather than a party objective. He warned against a return to “instability and experimentation,” referring to past periods of political uncertainty.
Mitsotakis said that a strong economy is a prerequisite for a strong Greece and reiterated the importance of artificial intelligence in improving public administration and the functioning of the state.
Reflecting on the government’s record since taking office in 2019, Mitsotakis highlighted employment growth as a central achievement. “In 2019, unemployment was at 18%. Today we have created 600,000 jobs,” he said, describing the change as a source of optimism, particularly as young Greeks who emigrated are now showing interest in returning.
He also stressed fiscal responsibility, noting that the government cannot pass excessive debt to future generations and that reducing public debt remains a national imperative. Mitsotakis defended the government’s fiscal approach, stating that while important social measures are necessary, they must remain within budgetary limits. He noted that his administration has already implemented substantial tax reductions, which he said are often overlooked.
