The District School Education Department initiated an inquiry on Saturday after a video went viral on social media alleging that students were being asked to pay for obtaining transfer certificates at the Government Higher Secondary School at Manachanallur in Tiruchi district.The video purportedly shows a teacher collecting ₹300 from a student for issuing a TC, which is meant to be provided free of cost. The clip went viral on social media platforms, drawing criticism from the public.Following the issue, Chief Educational Officer G. Krishnapriya ordered a probe to verify the allegations. During the preliminary inquiry, the teacher reportedly stated that the amount was collected to replace desks and benches allegedly damaged by students on the last working day of the academic year. The teacher claimed that the collection was made with the approval of the School Management Committee and parents.Officials said a report would be submitted to the CEO and that action would be taken based on the findings.
