A 19-year-old girl died after being struck by lightning near her house at Kedayapatti in the district on Sunday evening. Police gave the name of the deceased as K. Suguna, who was a second year BBA student of the H.H. The Rajah’s College in Pudukottai. Police sources said Suguna left home to a nearby field to untie the cows. As it began to rain, she took shelter under a coconut tree in the field when she was struck by lightning and fell unconscious. She was rushed to hospital but she died on the way. The body was shifted to the Pudukottai Government Medical College and Hospital mortuary. The Vellanur police are investigating. Published - May 17, 2026 06:33 pm IST
