The Fourth Ministerial Meeting on Energy and Interconnectivity in Southeast Europe was concluded on Friday in Athens, with the participation of ministers and representatives responsible for energy affairs from Greece, Serbia, North Macedonia and Bulgaria, agreeing to see to the expansion of the Vertical Corridor to the western Balkans, too.

According to Greece’s Environment and Energy Ministry, during the discussions participants discussed the challenges of European and regional energy security, the strengthening of interconnections and energy cooperation in the region, as well as the need to accelerate strategic energy infrastructure projects.

“Today we agreed on the expansion of the Vertical Corridor with North Macedonia and Serbia, as well as the institutionalization of cooperation among the four countries,” said Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, and added: “The next meeting will take place in Belgrade in September. With a shared vision and a clear plan, energy becomes a force of convergence and prosperity in the region.”
