Egypt’s first University Podcast Festival ended on Tuesday, 9 December, with panel discussions about violence against women and the role of youth-created podcasts in bringing about social change.

The Faculty of Media at Al-Ahram Canadian University, in collaboration with of Flamingo Digital Solutions, a digital marketing agency based in New Cairo, and the Digital Media School, an independent platform for journalists and media students, organised the festival for students and young media professionals. Al Fanar Media was among the festival’s media partners.

One of the closing sessions was called “A Voice That Changes: Stories to Combat Violence against Women”, reinforcing the festival’s goal of supporting women’s issues and raising community awareness through digital platforms. The festival also encouraged media students to express themselves creatively through podcasts as a means of raising awareness and promoting social change.

Organisers timed the festival to coincide with the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, in support of calls for global solidarity to end violence against women and girls everywhere. The 16 Days campaign is observed every year from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).
