A member of a Belmont gang sparked a “national security incident” last Friday which caused security at the Parliament to be beefed up and several Government officials to be placed under higher protection.
This was disclosed by Attorney General John Jeremie in the Parliament yesterday, and also confirmed by Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro in response to questions from the Express.
The Attorney General made the disclosure during his contribution to the debate on the Parole Bill, 2026.
“I am authorised by the Commissioner of Police to say that last Friday, that a member of one of those gangs in that community sparked a national security incident, such that all of us in this Parliament were protected to a higher degree and certain officials in the Government were given additional protection.
“I am authorised by the Commissioner of Police, don’t worry to send Hansard to him, I spoke to him and he said I could say that,” said Jeremie.
