Opposition MP Stuart Young has criticised the “loose manner” in which the Government handles matters related to national security.

The Express contacted several Opposition MPs yesterday for comment following the disclosure by Attorney General John Jeremie in Parliament that a gang member had “sparked a national security incident, such that all of us in this Parliament were protected to a higher degree and certain officials in the Government were given additional protection” last Friday.

Young, the Member of Parliament for Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West, was among those contacted by the Express.

Last week, Defence Minister Wayne Sturge stated that constituencies represented by the PNM were among those plagued by gang activity.

Asked to comment on the Attorney General’s statement, Young responded: “The AG alone knows what he was speaking about. I certainly was not aware of any incident to which he referred.
