Telco, finance and cybersecurity businesses among first named partners

OpenAI on Tuesday released the names of several European companies that will get access to its most cyber-capable AI models a day after announcing that it would open the tech to EU bodies and companies to help them prepare for cybersecurity risks.

Europe has been forced to stand on the sidelines gnashing its teeth in recent weeks after OpenAI’s rival Anthropic only made its most advanced cyber model – Mythos – available to a selected few organisations, none of which were in the EU.

Those missing out included the bloc’s AI Office, which is tasked with overseeing larger AI model providers under the AI Act, but has not yet had access to Mythos for testing. On Monday, the European Commission – where the AI Office sits – said talks with Anthropic over access to the model are ongoing.

While Mythos’ full capacities remain unclear – not least because it’s not widely available for testing – AI models are expected to keep expanding their cybersecurity skillsets, making accessing the tech key for public bodies and companies to safeguard their infrastructure.
