The U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified a recall of Horizon Organic milk boxes as Class II due to a packaging issue, affecting more than 63,000 cartons across four states.
The recall of 6-packs of 8 fl. oz Shelf Stable 1% Lowfat DHA Omega-3 Chocolate Milk Boxes was first announced on March 11. Horizon said in a news release at the time that the recall was triggered by "a packaging seal issue" that could cause boxes to swell, leak, or spoil the milk.
"Corrective and preventive actions have been implemented to prevent recurrence," Horizon said in the release.
The FDA describes a Class II recall as a situation in "which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences" or where the "probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."
According to the agency, Horizon Organic Dairy, LLC, initiated the recall, which affected about 63,396 cartons.
