After completing the trial run by allowing vehicles to use the remaining portion of the double-decker flyover (HSR to Ragigudda), the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) have written to the BMRCL, flagging the absence of emergency response access and recommending several measures to curb possible accidents.

The BTP pointed out that, in the event of an accident or mishap on the newly opened double-decker flyover, there are no emergency routes. In addition, the BTP have also suggested both engineering and enforcement interventions to improve commuter convenience and reduce the risk of mishaps.

The proposed interventions have once again underscored the lack of coordination between different departments in the city. In the past few months, such coordination issues have persisted in white-topping projects, city infrastructure works, and, more recently, among the new corporations as well (sharing of tree canopy management teams).

Engineering intervention

The 5.1-km double-decker flyover connecting HSR Layout, BTM Layout, and Ragigudda opened on April 23. The flyover has one down-ramp towards BTM Layout, and there are no openings to connect to the other stretch that could provide emergency access.
