Sridevi Nayak’s association with The Bookworm bookstore on Church Street began around 12 years ago, when she moved from her hometown, Udipi, to Bengaluru. Adapting to a new place was hard, recalls the founder of Just One More Page Book Club, which regularly holds meetings at The Bookworm. “I was trying to grapple with where I was and what I was doing there,” she says.

Since she finally had “adult money” for the first time in her life, she coped by visiting the store regularly to buy books, and it became more than just a bookstore. “What started as a relationship between a customer and a person selling the books became very special,” says Sridevi, recalling how well she was treated every time she entered the store. “Whenever I have felt uncomfortable, I have gone to Bookworm and found solace there.”
