The Italian legal team of the Global Sumud Flotilla said Thursday that 24 of the activists arrested when the Israeli authorities intercepted 22 of the boats involved in the mission to get aid to Gaza overnight are Italian.
In total 57 Italians are taking part in the mission.
"It is extremely serious that activists detained 150 nautical miles from Crete and 600 miles from the coast of Gaza are being taken to Israel," the legal team said.
The opposition Democratic Party (PD), 5-Star Movement (M5S), Italia Viva (IV) and Green-Left Alliance (AVS) parties made a request in the Senate on Thursday for Premier Giorgia Meloni, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Defence Minister Guido Crosetto to urgently report to parliament on the flotilla.
