At the WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media South Asia Awards 2026, The Hindu won the gold in the category “Best AI-driven News Product, Format or Strategy” for its data story on the unusual deletion patterns in the special intensive revision (SIR) in Bihar. The Hindu also won the silver for “Best in Countering Disinformation”.

‘The Hindu Explains’ newsletter won the bronze in the “Best Newsletter” category. The newspaper also bronze awards in the categories of “Best Marketing Campaign for a News Brand”, “Best use of Audio”, and “Best Reader Revenue”.

Among other winners, Collective Newsroom bagged the gold for “Best Data Visualisation”, while Spot On won top honours for “Best Emerging News Providers”. The Financial Times’ “India Business Briefing” won the gold for “Best Newsletter”, while Deutsche Welle’s (DW) “Delayland” topped in the “Best use of Audio” category.

In the “Best Use of Video” category, the gold went to the Daily Star for “Anatomy of BGB shootings in Rampura”, the silver to Prothom Alo for “The Highway of Death: Jatrabari Killings”, and bronze to The Quint for “Why Indian cities aren’t walkable”.

These awards for excellence in digital innovation are presented annually by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).
