A total of 62 centres have been set up across Tamil Nadu for the counting of votes polled in the recently Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. As per the procedure, the vote counting procedures would commence at 8 am on May 4.
The counting of postal ballots would be the first to start at 8 am. After 30 minutes i.e., at 8:30 am, the counting of votes recorded in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would begin.
In the rounds of counting EVM votes, the final round would only commence after the counting of all postal ballots has been completed, an official release from the Chief Electoral Officer said.
In every counting center, one section will be dedicated to postal ballots and another to EVM votes, with counting conducted at designated tables. Separate Assistant Returning Officers (ARO Level) will be appointed to supervise each section.
“Postal ballots will be counted at a ratio of one table for every 500 postal ballots.” Out of the 3.60 lakh total officials deployed for election duty, 2.88 lakh (80%) who registered and applied for postal ballots have cast their votes.
