Postal voting for senior citizens aged 85 and above, and persons with benchmark disabilities will be conducted across all 16 Assembly constituencies in Chennai district on April 16, 17,and 18, ahead of the Assembly election.
A total of 8,947 voters who opted for home voting through Form 12D will be covered under the exercise. Polling will be held between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the residences of the voters, according to a press release.
For this purpose, 100 polling teams, including 96 regular teams and four reserve teams, have been formed. Each team comprises a micro observer, two polling officials, a police officer, a videographer and a driver. Each team is expected to cover around 40 households per day, the release said.
Booth Level Officers will inform voters in advance about the date and the time of polling. If a voter is unavailable, one additional visit will be made. Polling officials will deliver ballot papers at the residence, ensure secrecy of voting and collect sealed ballots. The process will be recorded without compromising secrecy.
Sealed ballot boxes will be handed over to election officials and stored in strong rooms after due procedures.
