An engineering student alerted the police through the Sakthi App after she was allegedly harassed by an auto driver on her way from Vijayawada to Nambur late on Saturday (April 25,2026), night. A case has been registered against the driver, B. Phanindra.

The student boarded the auto at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) in Vijayawada around midnight and hired it to Nambur. The driver touched her inappropriately and repeatedly asked for her phone number, after which she pressed the alert on the Sakthi App on her mobile phone, Inspector-General of Police B. Raja Kumari told The Hindu.

The Mangalagiri Rural police tracked the auto and rescued the student. The driver fled into the dark, Guntur Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal said.

“The accused was arrested. The timely alert of the girl helped the police to rescue her,” Mangalagiri Deputy Superintendent of Police Ch. Murali Krishna said on Sunday (April 26, 2026).
