An auto-rickshaw driver was arrested by the police for allegedly threatening and sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman he befriended through a mobile application.

According to police, the victim, a resident of New Washermenpet, had become acquainted with the accused, identified as Libinraj, 25, of Puthukulam in Kanniyakumari district, through a mobile app. The two started chatting frequently and also communicated over video calls. During these calls, Libinraj allegedly used obscene language and made the woman speak inappropriately.

He then took screenshots of the video chats and later threatened to post them on social media if she refused to meet him in person.

Police said the women met him at a lodge in September and October, where the accused allegedly assaulted and raped her. He also sent their selfie photographs to the woman’s mother and relatives. Based on the victim’s complaint, All Women Police arrested Libinraj.
