Former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh and co-founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Nadendla Bhaskara Rao died at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) morning after a long illness. He was 90. Mr. Bhaskara Rao was undergoing treatment for old-age-related ailments at a super-speciality hospital in Hyderabad, a Jana Sena Party release said.
His son, Nadendla Manohar, a key Jana Sena leader, is the Minister for Civil Supplies, Food and Consumer Affairs in the TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Bhaskara Rao, a native of Guntur, became Chief Minister of the undivided State for a month in 1984 after a revolt against N.T. Rama Rao (NTR), whose Cabinet he had joined as Finance Minister after the TDP won the 1983 Assembly election. The revolt, staged with the support of a section of TDP legislators and the Congress (I), came when NTR was in the United States for heart surgery.
