Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extensively campaigning across West Bengal for the Assembly election, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday (April 20, 2026) asked whether Mr. Modi wanted to settle in the State and become its Chief Minister.
“Does he want to become the Chief Minister of West Bengal or [does he] want to remain the country’s Prime Minister?” the Congress leader said at a public meeting in Cooch Behar district.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also made a similar remark against Mr. Modi in her campaign.
