The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (April 8, 2026) sought a campaign ban and legal action against Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

A BJP delegation, comprising Union Ministers Virendra Kumar and Arjun Ram Meghwal, along with party leaders Arun Singh and Om Pathak, submitted two complaints to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

In its complaint against Mr. Kharge, the BJP accused him of inciting communal hatred and promoting enmity between religious and political factions by referring to the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as “poisonous snakes” at a recent rally in Assam.
