When residents of neighbourhoods in Tiruporur Assembly Constituency meet the candidates in the fray, on April 19, one section of the gathering would feel hugely tempted to lead them by the hand on a whirlwind tour of the immediate geography. They would be “treading” through Thalambur and Siruseri. The meet-the-candidates in Tiruporur Assembly Constituency, being organised by Federation of OMR Residents Associations (FOMRRA), would be taking place at Casa Grand Supremus in Thalambur. So, residents of this and nearby localities are likely to be in the majority.

If they actually had their way, these residents would lead the candidates to these sections.

Narrow feeder roads

Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and what lies on both sides of it are worlds apart. OMR is a case of ribbon development. Behind a wide road with trappings of modernity lie narrow streets that are yet to witness civic infrastructure in a significant form. During rush hour, these interior roads are arteries plagued by arterial stenosis.

Senthil Sekhar, secretary, Casa Grand Supremus Buyers and Owners Association, points out that during rush hour these feeder roads are unable to have two big vehicles passing each other comfortably at the same time. To illustrate, he names SIPCOT-Thalambur Road and Shakti Nagar Road. He cites instances where school vans have fallen into the roadside pits. Motorists at the wheel of other vehicles have also had this harrowing experience.
