Iranna Bhorawat, public relation officer of Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), on Wednesday filed a complaint at the Central Division Cyber Crime Police Station accusing unidentified persons of impersonating the Commissioner and sending messages to the officials, creating confusion.
This comes days after the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Commissioner, Manivannan P., lodged a similar complaint of impersonation on WhatsApp.
According to the latest complaint, unidentified individuals have been misusing the name, designation, and photograph of the GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao to create a fake WhatsApp account.
The incident reportedly began on April 12, when the accused used an international mobile number to send messages to public relations officers, technical advisors, staff members, and several other officials falsely claiming to be the Chief Commissioner.
The fraudsters are attempting to deceive recipients by exploiting the identity and reputation of the senior official, the complaint stated, arguing such actions pose a serious risk of misinformation, fraud, and misuse of authority.
