The death toll in the explosion at a Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district touched 23 on Saturday (April 18, 2026).

According to the police, two more workers — Subrata Jana from West Bengal and Upendra Sah from Jharkhand — passed away during treatment in Raigarh and Raipur, respectively.

The incident took place on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) in Singhitarai village. A technical analysis by Chief Inspector of Boilers has purportedly found that that an excessive accumulation of fuel inside the boiler furnace caused extreme pressure to build up, leading to the explosion of the tube that connected the boiler to the turbine.
