The biggest jewellery story on the red carpet in recent years has been the bro-brooch. Sporting a Tiffany & Co Bird on a Rock pin is practically a rite of passage for any young Hollywood male. But leading men are now embracing the full jewellery suite. Benny Blanco wore a Chanel diamond brooch and a diamond bracelet and necklace by Neil Lane Couture at the Golden Globes. Even Kendrick Lamar, better known for his loyalty to a Canadian tuxedo, suited up for this year’s Grammys, pairing a custom-made Chanel tuxedo with a set of diamond studs by Shay, a Jacob & Co diamond ring and a string of Chanel pearls.

The trend for male jewellery is not confined to the red carpet. Basketball player LeBron James is known for wearing stacks of Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra bracelets. Meanwhile Tyler, The Creator was courtside at a Lakers game with a starfish brooch pinned to his puffer vest.

Cartier has long been a go-to for men with a taste for jewels; Timothée Chalamet, for instance, often wears a Panthère de Cartier white-gold, diamond, emerald and onyx necklace. “For Cartier, masculinity can be summed up in one word: elegance. And that definition transcends gender,” says Pierre Rainero, director of image, style and heritage, pointing to the Love bangle that launched in 1969 as a unisex style.
