Three years of
Sudan under fire
April 15 marks three years since the outbreak of war in Sudan.
What began as a power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” Dagalo, has forced more than 14 million people from their homes, creating one of the world’s largest humanitarian and displacement crises.
According to Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED), an independent conflict monitor, over the past three years more than 50,000 people have been reported killed across the country, though the true death toll is likely much higher once indirect deaths from disease, malnutrition and lack of healthcare are counted.
